Torres del pain(e) national park
Travel Location: Torres-del-Paine-National-Park,Chile
Torres del paine national park.
the name is not far from the experience..
we started on sunday with a catamarang crossing of lake Pehoe, this sounds pleasant however we were not keen to get off it as there were gale force winds and driving rain…who’s idea was this..
We sat next to a guy on the Catamarng on the way over and after exchanging the normal travel details he said he was living in Santiago, so shannon said you speak really good english, his reply (after a stunded silence) was so I should im English.
basically the views were awesome and here is pretty much the rundown of the days, below is only for those who are interested in doing this walk (which i highly recommend if you like walking), or you want to feel our pain.
just a note to stay in the lodges range from 40us a night to 200us a night for a single bed. to stay camping from 0- 7us a night each. we did it in 3 days of walking with 1/2 day connection either side however for more enjoyable time i recommend 6 days.
Did I mention we did this with 10kgs camping equipment and clothes on each of our backs
day 1
11km 3.5 hours
camp at Glacier Grey. a canterbury nor’wester has no comparison to the pantagonian winds….
day 2
19km 6 hours
camped at camp Italiano walked up valle de frances, amazing views
day 3
25km 9hours
walked from italiano to the base camp of las torres. this is the structure we have come to see, all the walking previous is really to get the shot of the Tors at sunrise which we did. these peaks are highly weather dependant and cannot be viewed if there is even the slightest bit of cloud.
day 4
we get up at 5.45 to scramble up rocks for 45minutes to the las torres. It was one of the hardest walks I(Shannon) have ever done (especially after walking 9hours the day before… sunrise was worth it even though we were only there for 1/2 hour the 3 days prior were worth it, now it was only 4 hours down to our connection.
