Hello from Baan Unrak in Thailand!!
i have been here for 8 days now and wanted to give you a quick update! for everyone who has donated, the total when i left sydney was just over $3 000 dollars – which was an incredible effort and almost covered the program fee (not including airfares, insurance etc). so thankyou to everyone who contributed!
the orphanage is amazing. we have been working so hard – painting and fence construction work in the thailand heat! also the kids are so overwhelmingly affectionate, happy and clingy! they jump all over us and want hugs and games etc. generally we work (paint/construction) in the morning to early afternoon, and then look after the kids for the rest of the day – seriously so exhausting!! the kids have been through so much – there stories are incredible – some have been sold (one girl had been sold 4 times before she came to the orphanage at 6mths old), others have fled persectution in Burma, others have suffered from HIV, and yet all are so happy and cheerful – the orphanage is full of laughter!!
mon and tues we had off – so we rented a house boat and spent a night on the lake, and then drove to the famous ‘death bridge’ built by ANZAC POW in WWII for the Thai army’s ‘sound and light show’ – so amazing! seriously puts our new years eve celebrations to shame! oh and did i mention we stopped on the way to swim in waterfalls and rivers – (undiseased ones of coarse!). such relaxing days off – and much needecd!
I can’t check my emails that often, but i would love to hear from you when i do! please email mrombola@yahoo.com.au if you have time!
until next time…
