Moreton Island is an hour’s catamaran trip from Brisbane and is the 3rd largest sand island in the world (the biggest being Fraser Island just up the coast). It was formerly the Brisbane penal colony and I can think of worse places to be sent to prison than a subtropical island with world class beaches..

The Tangaluma resort is a scientific research station for the study of the bottle nosed dolphins in the bay. We arrived and spent the day avoiding the sun because it was the hottest day of the summer, 39 degrees in the shade. Lots of time in the swimming pool and not much wandering about.

The highlight of this short trip was getting the opportunity to get into the sea and feed wild dolphins. Charlie was great, he got into the water with us, very calm and gave them the fish and loved it. Remarkable animals and a real experience.

I suspect the highlight for Charlie was a motorbike ride he went on with one of the guys from the resort on a little quad bike. Seriously chuffed he got the chance to steer, press the horn and pull the brake.

Lovely family trip with fish and chips on the beach and mosquito bites galore.
