If you are feeling tired and stressed with your daily hectic schedule then you need to relax and have some free time to make yourself tension free. In today’s contemporary life style it is very difficult to have some free time but you should take time off for a holiday. In this short break you can visit to France and enjoy a change with full entertainment. If you reside in U.K then again France is the best option to travel. You can visit France through ferry travel. Ferry to France is very comfortable if you decide to plan it in advance.

Sometimes ferry travel becomes cheaper as compared to air travel. There are no extra charges added to fare if you plan it early. The other biggest advantage which ferry travel has is you can carry as much luggage as you want while in air travel you have restrictions. Moreover those passengers who carry their own cars are allowed to bring on-board.

Apart from this if you visit France through ferry then you will get a chance to travel to the most famous French cities like Lillie, Lyon, and Paris. The experience of on-board traveling is very exciting and enthralling. It gives you those moments where you can dine and enjoy yourself with your family and friends in the middle of an ocean. It should also be noted that ferry travel takes less time. So you don’t need to worry at all to reach your destination.

After so many flights and trains, we were exhausted. We just didn’t even have enough energy to check out any sights at all. We walked for 4 blocks to get lunch and that was all we saw of London.

Even though this was technically our official first year anniversary, we couldn’t even get enough energy to go out to anniversary dinner. But it was ok because we splurged and stayed at the Intercontinental (a real 5 star hotel) and we had great dinner in the hotel room. So I had a great 1st year anniversary after all!

e walked for 4 blocks to get lunch and that was all we saw of London.

The next day, Ken went home and it was off to Helsinki for work for me.

Yesterday was a great day. Went down to City Airport Dentists to hang out for a few hours in the office. It was obvious that the office was publicly run, not at all like our suburban offices at home. Prices were so much different also. Monday I will be going back to do a more formal interview with the dentist, one on one.

After the office, I met up with Danny and walked around town, Covent Gardens, Chinatown, Soho, and the red light district (!). Took tons of pictures, like the people dressed up for Jews for Jesus, the magician and unicycle rider in the West Piazza, our lunch at Punch and Judy’s….

When everyone got off of work we met up at a pub for drinks and there was a bar dog! Apparently bar’s have dogs, he looked dead until he tried to bite Tom We went bowling afterwards in private lanes in the nicest bowling alley/cafe ever! I beat everyone at bowling too!! Must be the name…

After bowling we walked down Brick Lane and had all these Indian men fight over us so that we would eat their curry. I never had anyone fight over me like that!! So Danny and I had our first curry experience, a three course meal after a night of drinking!! Normally we would just get cheesesteaks, pizza, McDonald’s but here you bargain for curry!! Naan or rice, popadoms, a starter, and a main, and a free Cobra beer for £13…very good deal.

Today we’re going to Camdem Market to pick up somethings and were gonna make our salsa for Allison and Shane. Possible London BBQ, with a disposable grill! haha

Allison and I are gonna have a girly day soon and maybe Shane and Danny will go back to Soho and see that £2 peep show

Forgot to discuss our Saturday!

After our Full English Breakfast, we went down to The Camden Market/Camden Lock, which for people at home is like Rice’s Market x 1000…there is ever kind of ethnic food and shops. From fresh donuts to antiques, there is everything in this wild market. And I picked up the one item I was looking for–a hat for the wedding!! It’s adorable. There were hookah and head shops, traditional Indian clothing stores, racey lingerie stores, art galleries, tattoo parlors (don’t worry mom I didn’t get one), a Cuban Cafe where we got drinks, and vintage clothing stores. Saw Polish food, Argintine, Indian, Mexican, Italian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese food and drinks..so many delicious smells.

After Camden Lock we went to a grocery store to get a disposable grill (for only £2) for our English BBQ, complete with overcast skies and British Cheddar Cheese (Cheddar is a town in England–the cheese is the equivalent to our American Cheese). I made my Avocado Lime salsa and Allison made potato salad. After dinner we watched an interview with Katie Price–a “model” from the UK who just divorced a British ex-Pop singer. They had a reality show together (surprised theyre getting divorced?) I would say they are a trashy version of Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, only Katie used to be a nude model and has had more plastic surgery than necessary whereas Jessica’s boobs are real haha.

It went ok but the tons of sleep we planned on getting didn’t happen – too many good movies on board! We arrived in London, jumped on the tube and headed straight for our hotel in Kensington, which had 2 double beds and was surprisingly huge, and immediately passed out for an hour. Senem’s friend from teaching English in Korea, Anna, arrived with 2 bottles of wine and Claire, Senem’s former wife on Facebook, showed up and the night began.

The pub we planned on going to was way too busy so we went to another lounge. Drinks were pricey (no surprise) but the company made up for it and we had a blast. We must have been jetlagged and drinking no water didn’t help. Every time we checked the clock it was no less than 3 hours earlier than we thought and I was guilty of falling asleep while standing in the club…oops. Afterwards, we stumbled over to Chinatown and had some late night eats before jumping into a cab (in which I also passed out a couple times) back to the hotel where we ended up with the worst dehydration headaches ever but when we got back, we went directly to bed around 2 am.

Another plus – because we weren’t originally assigned seats together, we got upgraded to business class for the 8 hour flight. Nothing special except for the amazing seats which reclined further back, had foot rests, and were 2 inches or so wider and we got served first. We slept almost the whole way there.

Unfortunately, Kent had to go into work on saturday. On nice not-rainy mornings, he likes to walk to work and since this morning was not only nice and not rainy, but downright sunny, I decided to tag along on his stroll. We walked a few blocks to the entrance of an enclosed area callled New River Walk. According to a poster, the New River Walk is “neither new, nor a river”. It’s really a man made aqueduct built in the early 1600′s to transport a steady supply of drinking water to the growing London population. Certain areas have since been restored into picturesque river walks. We stepped through the iron gates and were immediately transported from the urban city streets to a romantic autumn setting. Right before my eyes a narrow paved trail loosely wove its way through lush grassy knolls, weeping willows and red leafed trees. On our right was a small river, with a thin layer of bright green moss and the occasional mallard or coot floating on the surface. We walked across wooden bridges and stone bridges, past an old guard house and through piles of yellow and orange leaves. It was just gorgeous, and the perfect way to start the day.

Our trip ended when we stepped onto Essex Street. Sigh. Back in the city. A few doors down, we passed a small shop filled to the brim with animals, dead ones of course. There was a cute penguin in the window, a variety of birds hanging from the ceiling, but most impressive/disturbing was the hippo head hung on the wall. The clever sign above the small taxidermy shop made us both giggle: Get Stuffed. Ha! And, awww… poor things.

With just enough time for breakfast, we stopped in S&M (Sausage and Mash… The Brits seem to have a thing for naming places with double entendres (Or maybe I just don’t notice it as much in the states?). So far this week I have eaten at The Famous Cock (as in male chicken of course) and I am anxiously awaiting a sweet snack at Snog (England’s Pinkberry) Anyway…). We were greeted and seated by a cute blonde boy whom we immediately pegged as Australian when he asked “How you going?” (which is Aussie-talk for “How’s it going”). Kent, who is just loving London’s thicker, meatier version of bacon, ordered a bacon and egg breakfast sandwich. I wanted something a tad more Britty, so I got scrambled eggs, an english muffin, roasted potatoes and baked beans. I don’t think I’d had beans for breakfast since my sister and I were in Scotland, and man have I missed ‘em! They were delicious, and so filling I couldn’t even finish them all!

After breakfast, Kent went ahead to the studio and I walked back to Stokey. At Kent’s recommendation, and with the sunny weather welcoming exploration, I headed past the flat and towards the northern area of the neighborhood. When I came up to Stoke Newington Church Road, I saw why Kent had suggested I go here. In front of me was a huge sprawling park, Clissold Park a sign told me. Lining the street opposite the park were heaps of cafes, vintage shops and super cute gift and stationery stores. Towering above the shop was the ornate gothic steeple of St. Mary’s Church. I wandered around the park and perused nearly every vintage store I passed until I came to a creepy looking iron and stone gateway. Beyond it, I could see an old graveyard overflowing with statues, tombstones and untrimmed trees and ivy. It was Abney Park Cemetary, and I couldn’t resist going inside.

Even though there was barely a cloud in sight, the dense cover of the overgrown trees gave the cemetary an unnatural darkness. I followed the damp dirt trail littered with dead leaves through the maze of graves ranging in age from the late 1800′s to the early 2000′s. The thing I found most interesting was the general disorganization and congestion of the burial sites. There seemed to be piles and piles of gravestones and the larger statues were practically leaning on each other. This gave the appearance of the deceased being laid to rest on top of one another and made me wonder more about the history of Abney Park… particularly the burial history. Some later research would reveal that the cemetary had opened as a non-denominational garden cemetary in 1840, the first in Europe. Its founders also wanting to throw education in the mix, the cemetary had 2,500 different varieties of trees and shrubs planted throughout the 32 acre landscape, all labelled and arranged alphabetically. In 1978, the land passed to the city. With the exception of a few courtesy burials for family members, burial rights have ceased and the foilage within the park has been allowed to flourish naturally. I don’t think this really answered my question as to why the grounds seemed so crowded, but it was still an interesting back story. After wandering around the graves of strangers for a bit, I bought some fresh baked bread at a nearby farmer’s market and went back to the flat for a much needed nap.

I woke up just in time to get ready for the night. Kent’s friend James, from work, was hosting a Guy Fawkes bonfire, and had invited the two of us to join in the celebration. Yay- I love parties! I took the bus downown and met Kent, along with some of the “Gumball” crew, at the usual hangout- The Duke (the pub just below the animation studio). I was introduced to James and John (both writers on show), and Ben and Aurelie (an adorable french couple- Ben is the creator of “Gumball” and I had actually met him the last time I was at The Duke). After a quick drink, James, Ben, Aurelie, Kent and I walked to the nearest Underground, and hopped the tube. We got off one stop early, stocked up on liquor and took a cab to James’ huge house in the suburbs. Once owned by his grandmother, he now lives there with his fiancee, Holly, and his brother Remy. The weekend before, James had held a Halloween party and I was thrilled to see they hadn’t bothered to take down any decorations. On the lawn, skeletons were crawling out of their open graves, and inside was the usual emsemble of skulls and cobwebs. Awesome! Also waiting just inside the house was a generous pile of fireworks. Double awesome!! After some more introductions, we all excitedly ran out to the backyard for a show. Sparklers in hand, the girls kept a safe distance on the porch while the boys set up the pyrotechnics in the center of the large backyard. The homemade show was quite impressive. I had no idea such fantastic explosives were available to the public. Los Angeles County is really missing out.

When the firework supply ran out, we all went back inside where a new (to us) drinking game soon began. This was a fun one. A deck of cards was placed face down on a table. When it was your turn, you picked a card and had to do the activity that coordinated with the face value on a preestablished list. For example, an ace might mean charades (whoever guessed correctly nominated a drinker), a queen might be a dare (decided on by the group) and an eight might be karaoke (in which no one would actually drink, but amusing nonetheless). My fave card was the nine, for when I finally picked it, I got to run upstairs to the costume room (yes, there is a room in this house solely devoted to costumes) and dress in something really silly. I invited Aurelie to come with (I knew she was looking forward to playing dress up too) and we reemerged a few minutes later, she in a long white beard and a paddy hat, and I in a hula skirt and a chorus line headdress. By the end of the night the gathering had evolved into a dance party, and just about everyone had some sort of costume on. Best dance party ever. We didn’t get home til 4 am! Luckily, the next day being sunday, we both had a sleep in day ahead of us.

Cheers!

Since we’d had a late night partying the evening before, it was no surprise Kent and I didin’t wake up until after noon on Sunday. We took our time getting out of bed and watched a few episodes of Peep Show before really preparing for the day. Not that we had much to prepare for. A friend of Kent’s was celebrating her birthday at a local pub, but he had lost the email with the information. Our only other to-do for the day was a British Sunday roast, and now it seemed we had all afternoon to enjoy it!

We slowly made our way out, and just as we were about to walk through the door, Kent received a text from the birthday girl. Looks like we’d be doing some pre-roast partying after all! We took the bus downtown and after stopping for a snack, walked to The Harrison. The pub was packed and although we hadn’t planned on staying long, we spent nearly three hours just meeting people and chatting.

We left around 6, and headed straight for another pub (that’s how the Brits do it… right?). This time we ended up at The Queen’s Head. Kent had been raving about a roast he had previously ate here, and I was excited to have my very own taste of an authentic British sunday feast. We seated ourselves at a small table and opened our menus. I was thrilled to see a vegetarian option: roasted butternut squash (kind of a fave of mine, if you haven’t yet noticed), stuffed with spinach, mushrooms and goat cheese served with potatoes and yorkshire pudding! Yum! Kent ordered the chicken roast, and it wasn’t long before our meals arrived. They were both fantastically delicious! London has yet to let me down in the cuisine department. We walked home and lazily watched television until we were fast asleep.

Since Kent had worked on saturday, he decided to call in sick on Monday. Yay! We left the flat around 11 and walked to the nearby Breakfast Club for a late breakie. Kent ordered an bacon and egg sandwich and I decided to try the chorizo, egg and potato plate. When our meals were set in front of us, I think we were both a bit disappointed: Kent’s sandwich had sausage instead of bacon, and my plate (which I had expected to be more of a hash) had a giant whole chorizo sausage in the middle of it. Ew… but we both went with it, and were soon on our way.

On our way to where, you ask? Well, lemme tell ya. On one of his previous trips to London, Kent had been excited to discover the canals north of King’s Cross station. I had never heard of them, but apparently a huge canal system quietly exists in London. It was developed in the late 18th century with further expansion continuing well into the 19th century. Built to accomodate transportation of goods vias barges, the network of canals became commercially obsolete in the sixties with the advancements in ground transport. They are mostly used today for recreation. Certain areas around the canals have been remodeled or restored as picturesque riverside walks, and long narrow canal boats dock in marinas, ready to be taken for a midday cruise. We wandered along the canal, pausing occasionally to admire the ducks, random street art or, in one case, a sunken scooter. We also briefly made a detour through Camden Town Street Market, eyeing some cozy looking hats and super cute handmade crafts.

Quite a ways from where we started, Kent led me up some stairs and we emerged onto a street lined with trees and upscale pastel flats. We were in the fancy area of Primrose, and man was it pretty. We strolled through the neighborhood, trying to imagine what the interiors must look like, and stopped at the bottom of a large grassy hill. “At the top of this hill” Kent started, “is one of the best views of London you can get.” Wanting to be surprised, I closed my eyes and had him guide me all the way to the lookout. When we reached the top, Kent twirled me around and I opened my eyes to see an unimpressive street lined with cars and more nice flats. As I was wondering what I was really looking at, he began to giggle. “Turn around” he said. Wow! There was the view I had been expecting! What a little trickster. Sprawled out in front of us, beyond the huge green park, was the panaoramic London skyline. We sat down on a bench and took it in a bit before heading down the hill towards Regent’s Park. The rest of our day was spent walking. We walked through Regent’s Park, down Oxford Street to Regent Street, through Trafalgar Square and all the way down to Big Ben. We crossed the Thames River and continued walking along the river. It was nightfall by then, and the city’s lights reflecting on the water was another gorgeous sight. We hopped the bus at Waterloo, and since by now our legs and feet were getting achey (we would later discover we had walked over 9 miles that day!), we were grateful for the ride home. We picked up a pizza and spent the rest of our evening relaxing and watching some British television. ‘Twas yet another dreamy few days in London, and again I have Kent to thank. Thanks buddy!
