Hooray, hooray, I was seeing Moo today!

My school friend, Keira (aka Moo) had left for Europe back in August and I hadn’t seen her since! So at long last, since Keira had two days off work, we agreed to meet in York for 2 days together.

I caught the train from Wigan. My train to Manchester didn’t show and there was no explanation as to why which was quite annoying. So I had to go ask someone what to do and ended up changing at Bolton. Then finally got to Manchester and THEN was finally on the train to York. Meanwhile, Keira’s bus drove straight past her without stopping so she was later than me.

Well we FINALLY met up and started chatting and walking to our hotel…in the total wrong direction. I did not have my walking attire on (ie knee high boots with heels) and my feet did not thank me for this detour round the back streets of York. We finally found a postie who gave us directions and some time later, staggered into our hotel.

York Minster by night.

We then set off for tea in a York tea house. There were women dining in them with big fur hats. We got scared. Well, I did because I felt like a big dag in what I was wearing. But we went in and has tea and a scone. The scone was not warmed!! They don’t do that in the UK Moo tells me. Oh my God! Just not right I tells ya.

Then we just generally wandered around the shops and stuff. It was getting late and nearly closing time so after that we went and had a drink in a pub. We then realised we had no money (after we’d paid) and had to venture out into the cold streets again to get to an ATM. So after that we had dinner in another pub and some drinks then braved the weather and walked back to the hotel to drink my bottle of vodka and use the internet and stuff.

The next morning I was woken pretty early by the general noisiness of people walking around and coming and going. Moo was fine as she lives in share accommodation in a pub. Then at about 8am someone just opened our door! Hmmm!! They apologised and closed it again.

Me & Moo.

We got up and had breakfast and then went to York Minster. My feet were muchly in pain from blisters so I spend most of the morning wimpering. We did a tour of the Minster with an extremely enthusiastic old man as our guide. He annoyed me. We snuck away after an hour of tour because, well, we were getting cranky. Then we went down to the crypt and stuff. But that was a bit ordinary. I was expecting heaps of dead people. But the minster itself is very impressive and beautiful. The biggest north of the Alps I think he said. It is enormous and grand.

We went and got me some bandaids, sorry, plasters, from Boots. Then shopped a bit and had lunch in a pub…then hit the ox fam book store. Hooray for Charlotte Bronte novels.

We generally wandered a bit more then had arvo tea at a big tea house called Bettys. It was busy and obviously very popular but the service was a bit shite and Keira and I were a bit unimpressed seeing as we’re both waitresses. But once we got served and everything, it was really very, very nice. Tea leaves! First time since I’ve gotten here! Awesome tasting tea too.

Then walked back to hotel to get bags and called a cab because, well, I was stuffed if I was walking back to the station. My feet were not happy campers. So we got on the train together and Keira left me at Leeds. I got back to Wigan and it was all over!!

York was so lovely and pretty. Very quaint and whatever other adjectives there are. I really enjoyed it and would go back, although there are a million other places I want to go. It was just so old and stone-y!! I wish I had taken more photos but Keira and I were always too cold to stop and get the photo out and take any pictures. We wanted to keep moving to get where ever we were going! But yes, loved it!
