The more heated the situation becomes in Lhasa, Tibet, the more fervent the demonstrations here in India. China claims that they have not acted irrationally in Tibet, but there are posters all over town depicting the dead and wounded there. Now China is blaming the Dalai Lama for the uprising in Tibet. The Dalai Lama is a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and has always advocated non-violence in the Tibet crisis. The Tibetans have received international media attention, which is exactly what they needed. The USA Speaker of the House visited the Dalai Lama today. She made a public announcement at the local temple that the US will support Tibet. I am shocked that the USA stepped up. We had the first delegate to take interest in the situation! This is very suprising since all of our shit is “made in China”! Where is the United Nations? They are always to slow to move. What can you do to help?

Demonstration in McLeod Ganj

There is a petition circulating that will be given to the rulers of China in hopes that they will have peace talks with the Dalai Lama. Please visit the site and sign the petition to stop the violence in Tibet! People are dying while you wait!

I spent two nights in McLeod and then headed back to the nunnery 30km away in order to get away from the noise. I have only been visiting McLeod here and there. My friend Jays has been here in the midst of it most of the time. She has the best first-hand account of the events occurring here in McLeod Ganj that I have read. Her website is www.jayerhodes.com. Her blog is much better than mine, and she has great pictures!

PS: I copied this from my friend Jaye’s website. It is from a handout we received during one of the protests.

The Chinese government has made the following accusations against His Holiness the Dalai Lama:

Dalai Lama seeks genuine autonomy for Tibet, but China accuses him of trying to split China.

  1. Dalai Lama advocates democracy, but China accuses him of trying to restore Tibet’s old social order.
  2. Dalai Lama supports the Beijing Olympics, but China accuses him of opposing it.

We appeal the United Nations, human rights organizations, and all the freedom-loving countries across the world to act as honest witnesses and prove that these accusations and allegations of the Chinese are baseless and untrue. Tibetans struggle for the truth and justice will not cease until and unless Tibet and China come to a mutually-peaceful agreement. We will continue with our non-violent demonstrations and peaceful march. We request all the nations around the world to show solidarity to our cause, and do not hinder our peaceful campaigns. If you are uncertain as to what the Dalai Lama’s official beliefs and opinions are, please visit his website: www.dalailama.com
