Final Days… Today we went to little India for lunch, and I enjoyed some amazing curried eggplant with cheese pita bread. It was absolutely delicious. We tried to wander the area for a little bit, but it didn’t seem there was much to see so me and another girl headed back to Arab street to do some shopping. Turns out we went the wrong out and came out in the middle of the financial district downtown–aka the huuuuge skyscrapers–kind of intimidating, but still nice to see. However, after that it was too late to keep looking as I had plans to meet up with my father’s co-worker who just happens to live in Singapore. She took me all over the down town area, and to several well-known touristy spots. We had a round of Singapore Slings at the Raffles hotel, went to the Esplanade theatre/mall/general entertainment venue area to see the waterfront and Merlion fountain. Blocking the view however, was a giant construction site for one of the two new (and only) “integrated entertainment centers” (aka casinos) being built in Singapore. We had a great time, and I learned alot about Singapore from a local point of view. For instance, cars are taxed higher the older they get, so by the time a car is 10 years old it’s usually not even worth owning even more. Therefore, every car in Singapore is less than 10 years old. And, chewing gum is not actually illegal; you just can’t buy it anywhere…

yet another merlion...but apparently this one is the original

That night we went to the Night Safari; it was an experience. Basically a 45 minute tram ride through a zoo with special lights so you can see all the nocturnal creatures. It was actually more interesting than I thought, a lot of the animals were out, including Elephants, Giraffes, Bongos, and (my favorite) Hyenas. There was also fish tank where you could get a “pedicure” aka have little fish nibble at your feet until they are smooth, but i decided to pass on that one…

Last Day in Singapore! Nothing too special happened today, we went to several more agencies and then had a review session over the whole weeks. About 6 that evening several of us received e-mail saying our flight was canceled and we bumped to a later flight. This actually turned out to be a wonderful thing because we received two more hours of sleep and were transferred to Singapore Airlines, supposedly one of the nicest in the world.

fish pedicures!

That night, we had dinner at nice little Italian place down the street (i’ve definitely been around the world when it comes to food in Singapore), followed by a few great rounds of Karaoke, (which, trust me, you do not want to see these videos…) : ) Sadly, I went back to the hotel and started packing up my suitcases, and bracing myself for the 5 am wake up call. I loved Singapore! The city had such a welcoming and polished feel to it; the food was amazing, and there is always something to do. I want to come back!
