Our first day in Europe!
Travel Location: London,United-Kingdom
First of all 2 words… jet & lag! We thought we got enough sleep on the plane but we were really tired today. Whew! So we landed at Gatwick and security took about 1 1/2 hours. It wasn’t that bad. Then we struggled trying to figure out the how to use the Tube and buses. We never got lost or anything but it just took a while to figure it all out. So after dealing with jet lag, transportation & hunger we got off to a slow start… but then it turned great! We started at Westminster Abbey. Incredible! All those royal tombs in one (all be it a huge) church. It was so beautiful. Then we went to Churchill’s War Cabinet Museum. We saw Churchill’s bedroom, the Cabinet Room where the world was changed and all the other rooms which were the headquarters for the British in WWII. What was interesting is how everything was so cramped and basic. There was nothing fancy about anything in there. I guess it was just all business. We walked by Parliament (heard Big Ben chime), 10 Downing Street, Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus & Trafalgar Square. Security was very tight. Police are everywhere (with machine guns!) and look very serious. We then went to Harrods. Talk about one stop shop!?!?! Saw the (uh… pretty big!!!) ring Mohammed Al Fayed gave Princess Diana. So we got off to a late start and didn’t get to some of the places we had planned to today. But we’re going to get up early tomorrow and “catch up”. We’ll have a busy but fun day. What an amazing city. So far this is the coolest city I’ve been too. So much history and just a cool “feeling” through out. Londoners have been really nice. Food isn’t anything to get excited about (can I please get some ice for my Coke?!). Well, we’re going to go get a “pint” and then get ready for tomorrow!
