The second day of hard core camping (no amenities) started early at 6 am. There is a feeding of wild dolphins at Tin Can Bay about half an hour drive and that’s where we went. The dolphins are wild and a few years ago a sick dolphin came to the bay to recover. Volunteers took care of her and nursed her back to health. Since then three dolphins return every day in the morning for a snack. They are feed just three kg of fish a day which is about 1/6 of their daily ration. This means they still need to hunt for food and not just rely on the feeding. The dolphins come close to shore and standing knee deep in the water people can hand feed them a fish.

After the dolphin feeding it was time for us to have our breakfast. We then went on to discover the rainbow beach with the many colours. They can be seen by accessing the beach at the end of the town and walk for a few minutes south. Of course it is possible to drive on the beach with a 4WD, but after the experience with driving on sand we decided not to. The sand colours are quite amazing ranging from creamy to red and black. They are laid on step hills along the coast descending to the ocean. The waves are too high for snorkelling, although it would be quite nice for surfing.
