Day 40: Our Kiwi RoadTrip Begins!!!
Travel Location: Rotorua,New-Zealand
Well we decided to head off early, so I met Bobby down at this hostel around 10am, and after packing up the car, which is only just big enough to get one bag in the boot, we headed off. We had an addition to our posse, Phil from essex, who was getting a lift down to Rotorua, so we add squeezed in the car and headed off.
It took about 3 hours to get there, through rolling hills and the like. You can tell why they chose this part of the world as the ‘Shire’ in the lord of the rings! I expected to see hobbits wandering the landscape, but alas I was out of luck.
So, we arrived in Rotorua, which smells of rotten eggs, because it’s a termal hotspot. We dropped Phil’s bag at his hostel, then went for a walk around the thermal pools., which although were smelly, were pretty darn cool!! There’s bubbling hot mud pools too, which look cool, but would probably scald you to death if you went for a dip!
Next mission was to find somewhere for me and Bobby to stay……IE a campsite. We found a pretty nice on down by the lake, so we went over an pitched up. They gave us a really crap pitch, on gravel….but hey, we’re intridep explores now, so we wont complain…..plus it only cost us about 4 quid!!
So, next mission was to find some food, so we walked back into town, via the termal hotpool park, then down the main drag looking for something to eat…..and like the culture vultures we are we went for ‘Alll you can eat’ at Pizza hut cos it seemed like the cheapest option!!! An I used my dash cunning on them…..I took my lunchbox with me, and very slyly filled it with Pizza!! Thats tomorrows breakie sorted then!!
To be honest, Rotorua is a very quiet town, with not a huge amount to do in the town centre, so we headed for the pub. We just chilled out for the eveniong there, makiung our drinks last as long as is humanly possible!! We watch the Australia VS GB rugby league match (which GB won YEAH!), then headed back to the campsite.
After a small vodka nightcap, we hit the sack……well the gravel!
