Cape Town Cat-Ass-Trophy
Travel Location: Cape-Town,South-Africa
When I first arrived in Cape Town I was purring ecstatically because it was so warm! Meeow do I love the warm. I first stayed in Simons Town which is an old naval town, very quaint, lovely little shops and a great restaurant down the road (98 St Georges Street, Simons Town) called The Meeting Place where I had a gorgeous Junk Salad, now I usually only eat Go Cat cat biscuits, but something about Cape Town made me want to be healthy and eat local grown organic fresh food. I found the locals very friendly and always willing to help a little kitty like me, and I’m sure even if your not as pretty as myself the locals would still be helpful.
I found myself a friend whilst I was out there, another feline called Lee, she’s almost as pretty as me and ever so kind. She took it upon herself to show me around, taking me to Cape Pont to admire the views and she even took me horse riding, which I’ve never tried before because in England cats are not allowed to ride horses. Oh we had a great time on those horses, mine was called Silver and she was adorable for such a large beast whilst Lee rode on Carla, who was a bit stubborn and would just suddenly stop and refuse to move for ages. We did this thing called Bonda Bashing, which I think just means riding the horses through the bushes and trees, and the branches cut and scratch you which was fun but a bit painful at times, I was worried my eyes would be scratched out!
After the horse riding we went to this place called Scratch Patch, now I thought it would be a great opportunity to have a good scratch, but when we got there there wasn’t a scratching post in sight! Turns out its all about stones, and there were a lot of stones in all sorts of colours, shapes and sizes. Lee bought me a beautiful jade cat and told me it was lucky. She’s so sweet.
Another day whilst Lee was busy getting an african tail massage I went off for a walk in Simons Town, I walked along the sea front and found some penguins, just hanging out on the rocks by the sea. They were lovely and I got friendly with one little boy penguin called Pepper, he was so sweet and invited me in for a swim, now I don’t really like water but I didn’t want to offend him, so I told him I’d just had my hair styled which he understood. Anyway I spent a while with Pepper and his friends on the rocks, and dared to put my paw in the water to catch fish. I caught 3! They were tasty as well. Pepper told me that there is a lady that makes little mini penguins for tourists to buy, and that I must buy one to remember him by, so I went to the little shop by Boulders Beach and did just that!
Another day I decided to go into the city, so I had to get on the train, everyone I had spoken to so far told me I must go first class, otherwise it’s quite dangerous. Obviously I only ever travel first class anyway. The train was extremely cheap, I can’t remember exactly how much but maybe around a pound for the hourish long journey. The first class part of the train was not so different than ours at home in England, but I made a bit of a boo boo. I got on to the second class bit by mistake, and its just a bench either side of the carriageway jam packed with people. I could feel them all stare when I got on, and was worried they might try to steal my platinum collar, so I jumped off quick, then had to run down the platform to get on the right part of the train, it was terrible, I almost broke a sweat!
The train journey after that was pleasant enough, and the views lovely from the window. When you get off the train in Cape Town its so busy, a wee kitty like me could get so lost! Outside the station are tons of stalls selling all sorts of things, like really cool toys, ornaments, clocks etc that have been made out of junk. So I had a walk around, checked out some shops, bought some gifts for the cats at home then stopped for cat biscuit pizza and a Black Label beer in this pizza place in Long Street, I can’t remember it’s name but was very nice. I carried on browsing around and had another beer sat outside of Mozarts Cafe, that was really cool cos these different entertainers were doing dancing and singing etc, it was really quite pleasant. It was whilst sitting outside the Mozart Cafe that I was propositioned…… No, not like that you rude things. I was approached by this rather posh persian puss called Suzy Q. She spoke to me in Afrikaans at first and I was flattered that she thought I was local. She told me about this competition, you wont believe it but it was Cape Town’s rear of the year! She said I was so very attractive and that it would be a crime not to enter. Well what could I do, I had to oblige of course! Well I found out the competition was being held just down the road from where I was staying in the little restaurant called Sophea Gallery and Tibetan Teahouse, and I must hurry as it was starting in just a few hours. Suzy Q said I already looked fantastic, and to just show up as I am and that she would phone them to enter me as a contestant. Well I hot pawed it back to the station and this time got on the right part of the train, before you knew it I was walking into the teahouse. The owner (a human) was really nice and welcoming, he showed me to the ladies so I could check my appearance (immaculate as usual) I really wanted to check out my bum in the mirror, but everytime I turned around my bum followed me, I made myself quite dizzy and had to sit down for a few minutes.
Then the competition started, there were several other entrants and not all cats I might add, there were 3 baboons betty, belinda and babs. Too be honest they didn’t have a hope in hell. I was not worried I can tell you. There was also a crocodile, Snappy, she was quite friendly believe it or not, she had just eaten though, I didn’t plan to stick around for when she might start getting hungry again. We all had to say why we should win, so I told of my plans for world domination and explained my talent for self grooming, the judges were really quite impressed. Snappy showed off her ping pong ball trick (not really suitable for before the watershed) I think the judges were a little shocked. Finally the results were given, and yes, of course as expected I won. I was given the trophy which is a bum carved from chocolate, weirdo South Africans! Good job I love chocolate, I still have a little bit left, I allow myself a lick of it every other day, can’t overdo it, I have a title to maintain now don’t I?! Ha Ha, rear of the year, me, how fabulous!
That was probably the highlight of my trip, but I also climbed Table Mountain, went to Robben Island to see the cell that Nelson Mandela spent most of his prison time in. I ate some really great food, everywhere you go in Cape Town the food is always really good. I did a trip to Stellenbosch and hung out with a group of students, getting totally smashed at a braai and losing a day somewhere. That’s when a baby chamaleon fell out of a tree and landed on me, that was really special, little thing was only an inch long, and as it was a baby it couldn’t talk, just kept saying “do do kaka poo poo” so I named him Little Poo. One of the students put him back up in the tree for me. I also went to the Victoria and Albert Waterfront for a days shopping, bought some nice presents.
Another day I went to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, now that really is worth a visit, absolutely stunning there. I’m def going back there next time I’m in Cape Town.
Anyway that’s all for now kittens, ta ta x
